How do I get my tapes and reels to you?

Whatever's most convenient for you. We offer free local pickup across Cambridge and surrounding areas — just get in touch and we'll arrange a time that suits. Or, if you'd prefer, you're welcome to drop your media off to us at the studio when we're available and not recording. Either way, there's no need to post anything.

Can I drop my media off to you myself?

Yes, of course — if that's easier for you, just give us a call first so we can check we're at the studio and not in a recording session, and we'll sort out a convenient time. Have your tapes, reels, or slides boxed up and ready. Not sure what you have? Call us and we can help identify your media over the phone.

How do I know how much it will cost?

Our pricing is per item and fully transparent — see the pricing section on our homepage. If you have a large or mixed collection and want an estimate before committing, just send us a list or a photo and we'll give you a quote.

Are my original tapes safe with you?

Absolutely. We handle every item with care, store them securely while in our possession, and return them to you along with your digital files. We treat every tape as if it contains our own family memories — because we understand that's exactly what it does.

What if my tape is mouldy or damaged?

Don't panic — and don't try to play it. Some forms of tape damage (including mould and sticky-shed syndrome) can be treated before digitising. Get in touch and describe the condition; we'll advise whether recovery is possible and what to expect.

Can you digitise tapes that won't play in my old machine?

Often, yes. We use professional equipment and can handle formats that consumer players can't. Contact us with the format and any symptoms and we'll let you know what's likely possible.

What formats of tape do you accept?

VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Digital8, Hi8, 8mm film reels (3", 5", 7"), Super 8 film reels, 35mm colour slides, 35mm colour negatives, 35mm black-and-white negatives, and standard audio cassettes.

What format will my digital files be in?

Video is delivered as MP4 — the most universally compatible format, playable on any device, TV, or computer. Audio as high-quality MP3. Photos and slides as full-resolution JPEG files.

How do I receive my files?

Three options: Google Drive (we share a link — free), USB stick (32GB from $30), or DVD ($15 per disc). Google Drive is the most convenient and you can download and share immediately. Let us know which you prefer when you enquire.

Will the quality be better than the original tape?

We capture everything the tape contains, at the highest quality possible. For tapes in good condition this can look remarkably good. For degraded tapes we digitise what's there — we don't apply AI upscaling or filters unless specifically requested.

What is Memory Layby?

Memory Layby is our instalment payment option. Instead of paying for the full job upfront, you split the cost into weekly or fortnightly payments — no interest, no fees. It's designed for people with larger collections who want to get started now rather than saving up. See our Memory Layby page for full details.

Are there discounts for large quantities?

Yes — our pricing for slides, negatives, and video tapes includes automatic volume tiers. The more you have, the lower the per-item rate. See the pricing section on our homepage for the full breakdown.

Do you take customers from outside Cambridge?

Free pickup covers Cambridge and close surrounds. If you're further afield in the Waikato region, get in touch — we'll do our best to arrange something, or advise on safe courier options.
